Pepper Steak Recipe – A Flavorful Classic with Caribbean Flair

September 12, 2025 By cmmsupport No Comments

Why You’ll Love This Pepper Steak Recipe

There’s something so satisfying about a sizzling skillet of pepper steak. The tender strips of beef, colorful bell peppers, and savory sauce come together to create a dish that’s both comforting and vibrant. Whether you’re cooking for a weeknight dinner or entertaining family and friends, this pepper steak recipe is quick, delicious, and guaranteed to impress.

  • Quick and Easy – Ready in about 30 minutes, perfect for busy nights.
  • Full of Flavor – A savory sauce made with soy sauce, all purpose marinade, and bell peppers
  • Family-Friendly – Bold enough for adults but mild enough for kids to enjoy

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 1 ½ pounds flank steak or rib eye, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 bell peppers (red, green, or yellow), sliced into strips
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ⅓ cup dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of All purpose marinade (brand is Lee Kum Kee)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon All purpose seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Oxtail Seasoning (brand is Jamaican Choice)
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • Tip: You may need extra seasoning to season the pepper steak after you add water

Directions

1. Prepare the Beef

Thinly slice the steak against the grain to keep it tender. Slice the steak into thin strips and add seasoning

2. Stir-Fry the Beef

Heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add oil, then sear the beef in batches until browned but not fully cooked through.

3. Add the bell peppers

Add sliced bell peppers to the skillet and stir.

4. Add water

Add enough water to slightly cover the beef & peppers. It should be approximately 1/2 cup. You may want to add some all purpose seasoning, onion & garlic powder to taste. I suggest 1/2 a teaspoon of each.

5. Cover and allow to simmer for 15 minutes or until the steak is tender.

Pepper Steak, Yellow Rice, Tomato & Cucumber salad

Yellow Rice Recipe

-2 cups of jasmine rice

-2 1/2 cups of water

-1 tsp of Salt

-1 1/2 teaspoons of Bijol seasoning

-1 scallion

Directions

  1. Rinse rice until the water is clear and add water. Place on low/medium heat
  2. Add Salt
  3. Add Bijol seasoning and 1 scallion
  4. Cook until water evaporates and fluff with a fork

Tips for the Best Pepper Steak

  • Slice against the grain for the most tender beef.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan – cook beef in small batches for a good sear.
  • Add a Caribbean twist by seasoning the beef with a splash of browning sauce or a sprinkle of all-purpose seasoning.
  • Meal prep friendly – store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days

What to Serve with Pepper Steak

  • Steamed Jasmine Rice or Rice and Peas
  • Fried Plantains for a sweet balance
  • Stir-fried Noodles for an Asian-fusion feel
  • A side of sautéed bok choy or broccoli for extra greens
