Jamaican Style Pumpkin Punch

September 20, 2023 By The Cooking Nurse No Comments

Jamaican people can turn anything into a punch. Don’t believe me? Have you tried carrot punch, guinness punch, peanut punch, or irish moss? Those are all flavorful drinks turned into a punch by using ccommonly found ingredients. I love a good punch. Hearty enough to replace a meal, jamaican pumpkin punch has a milkshake like consistency, can be made vegan, and can be sweetened to your liking.

What kind of pumpkin should I use for Jamaican pumpkin punch?

I used 1/4 of a kabocha squash to make this pumpkin punch. You can also use calabaza. I do not recommend using spaghetti squash or butternut squash due to the high water content of those squashes.

What ingredients will I need?

In order to make Jamaican pumpkin punch, you’ll need: Kabocha squash, a bottle of Guinness Stoute or Dragon Stoute, 1 can of Supligen (9.8 oz), condensed milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, almond essence, and rose water. The addition of pumpkin spice is optional, but I like to use it as a way to kick the flavor up a notch.

What is rose water used for?

Rose water is used to round off recipes that contain savory flavors such as pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It mellows out a savory recipe and elevates the flavor.

Jamaican Pumpkin Punch Recipe

-1/4 Kabocha Squash (1.5 lbs) seeds removed

-1 bottle of Dragon Stoute

-1 can of Vanilla Supligen (9.8 oz)

-1 can of Condensed Milk

-1 tsp Vanilla Extract

-1 tsp Almond Essence

-1 tsp Ground Cinnamon

-1 tsp Ground Nutmeg

-1/2 tsp Pumpkin Spice

-1 tsp Rose Water

Directions

Kabocha squash can be hard to peel. I prefer to chop the squash into 3 inch squares and boil with the skin on. It’s much easier to peel boiled squash. Boil the squash for 20 minutes or until softened. Separate the squash from the water and in a blender add the squash, 1 cup of the water the squash was boiled in, and add the can of Supligen, Dragon Stoute, condensed milk, vanilla extract, almond essence, cinnamon, nutmeg, rose water, and pumpkin spice. Blend for 20-30 seconds and serve over ice.
