What is the shrimp burger made of?
Shrimp burgers are an excellent alternative to traditional beef burgers. I wanted something light, quick, and easy to make so shrimp burgers were an easy choice. The jerk seasoning brings a slight heat, and the addition of grilled pineapple rings offers that sweet balance which is enough to make this burger exactly what you need to satisfy that craving! All you need is raw shrimp, tail off, plain breadcrumbs, a wet jerk seasoning paste, a dry rub jerk seasoning, all purpose, and seafood seasoning.
Do I need special equipment?
You can use an outdoor or indoor grill for this recipe. I used the Ninja Foodi XL 7-in-1 Indoor Grill Combo. It has multiple functions like grill, bake, air fry, dehydrate, and much more. I love its versatility and its ability to combine multiple kitchen appliances into one device. Can I use something other than shrimp?
You definitely can! I know many people have a shellfish allergy so I’d suggest using salmon and making salmon burgers as an alternative. Atlantic salmon is the best option because of its flakiness and moisture content.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Raw Shrimp, tail off (substitute with salmon if needed)
- 1/2 tsp Seafood seasoning (brand: Jamaican Choice
- 1/2 tsp Fish seasoning (brand: Blue Mountain)
- 1/2 tsp All Purpose seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Jerk seasoning (dry rub)
- 4 tbsp Plain Breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 Pineapple ring per burger
- 2 Brioche buns or Kaiser rolls
- 1 egg beaten
**Note: If you’re not able to source the seafood seasoning and fish seasoning, 1 tsp of Old Bay seasoning will suffice
Directions
This recipe should yield 2 large shrimp burgers or 3 medium sized shrimp burgers. The first thing you should do is make sure your shrimp is peeled and deveined. You can rinse the shrimp with fresh lime to remove any debris or leftover vein. Pat dry and use a large knife to finely chop the shrimp until it has a minced consistency. To make the process easier, you can use a food processor and chop the shrimp until it’s minced. In a small mixing bowl, add seasonings, and use your hands to combine everything. Add breadcrumbs and combine. Use your hands to form two patties.
Preheat your grill. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil on top of the patties as soon as you place them on the grill. If using the Ninja Foodi Grill, grill on “high” setting for 5 minutes on each side (total 10 minutes). You can air fry the patties for 5 minutes on each side at 400 degrees as well (total 10 minutes) Grill pineapple rings for 5 minutes on each side. Prepare an egg wash for the brioche buns by beating 1 egg and brushing some of the beaten egg on top of the buns and toast for 5 minutes. *Note: you will not use all of the beaten egg. Just enough to brush a light coating on top of the buns*
Suggested condiments: I used Hellmann’s spicy mayo on the burgers. Hellmann’s also has a delicious garlic aioli sauce that I recommend. Serve with lettuce & tomato and enjoy!
